2003/7/24 - Thunderstorm photos |
This is a bit of a test of just posting some photos directly exported from iPhoto. A bit more manual than I’d like (have to edit the main page’s html directly) but it works…
These were taken during a rather strong thunderstorm about a week and a half ago. Pity it wasn’t about a week earlier, then an old friend of mine, Joe, who was in town with his wife could have shown her what a real Arizona thunderstorm is like (apparently the stuff they get in Washington state is rather wimpy). All they got to see was a weak one, but still more than they usually experience. This was the real thing, however. Frequent lightning strikes, booming thunder, sheets of rain — the whole nine yards. Probably the first really good rain of the monsoon season. So I cowered under the overhang out front with the camera on auto-advance (is it still “advance” when its a digital camera??) and snagged a few lucky shots of lightning and the saguaro out front. Another pic shows the strobe effect caused by lightning, freezing the falling raindrops midair.
The gallery starts here. I’ve got hi-res (3 megapixel) versions of these if anyone wants ‘em.
However, these pics pale in comparison to three fantastic ones that the Tucson National Weather Service has on its website. Not sure if they’re from the same storm or not. Here they are:1, 2, & 3 [links don’t work anymore
