On the way

Yesterday my dad drove me up to Phoenix for my flight to LA. I’d spent the entire night packing and doing other stuff, so didn’t get any sleep (not that the little bit that I would have gotten would have helped any). I managed to fill my two huge checked bags to just below the 70 pound international limit, hitting 66 pounds on each. Whew! Most of that was clothing, but it also includes my PS2 and a couple 90 CD binders of games, movies, anime and stuff. Here’s what my mountain of bags looked like:

My mountain of luggage

Man am I glad airports have carts…

Anyways, got to Phoenix at least an hour before the appointed meeting time and hung around wondering if we were in the right place with another JET and his family. Finally found out that our interpretation of the vague instructions wasn’t quite right and that group checking was a bit further down. Lucked out, though, didn’t have to pay any excess weight fees for the domestic flight.
Ended up sleeping much of the flight to Phoenix, the other JETs said my snoring was quite rhythmic… ^_^;;

LAX wasn’t much of a problem, there was someone there to direct us. It was a bit of time before the hotel got enough shuttles there for the 22 Arizona JETs and our mountains of luggage. Had to check in and immediately run over to orientation, which wasn’t too boring. After that finally got a chance to grab a snack to make up for lunch, even though the reception was just a little later. Reception went pretty well, got to chat with people and finally eat some real food. There was a map where everyone put pins where they were going, lots clustered a bit north of Tokyo, in Kansai and a number scattered elsewhere. I roomed with Craig, a fellow who will be at a high school in Hiroshima city. After the reception, did a bit of hanging out at a room party held by the local JET alumni association and chatting with everyone there.

So today woke up and managed to get myself over to the airport and checked in early, and have been sitting around with the other Arizona JETs here at LAX. For some reason they’re flying the Arizona bunch on a seperate flight for some reason. The rest are going out on ANA, we’re on American Airlines. Shrug. So, now just to wait for the flight…
