I’m here, finally

Yesterday went just fine, flew to Hiroshima, got picked up by the town & city board of education people & the JET from nearby, had a bite to eat with them then drove to the town BOE office.

My house is just down the street from the town BOE office & down the street from the train station (I’m right on the tracks, but at least its a short, fast one to pass). Its REALLY swanky, have to post pics eventually.

After seeing the house, we went to the city BOE to meet people, then headed back home to unpack some.?Later, around 6pm, my supervisor dropped by to take me to a restaurant that’s right behind my place. Lots of good food (sashimi, tempura, tofu and more) and beer & sake. Yes, willingness and ability to speak English do improve after a few beers. They were definitely making a good effort to communicate. Group was about 5 guys, a couple from the local schools, a businessman and the local policeman. So I’ve been drinking with the local cop already — really nice guy. 8-)

Survived all that pretty well without any really negative side effects. Even handled the various akward questions like the, uh, “size” question with a “ma-ma” (so-so). ^-^;;

Spent the rest of the evening and a bit of this morning doing more unpacking, currently at the town BOE trying to figure out what I’m going to be doing. Fortunately my predecessor left me some excellent info on this and more. That and even though none of the people in the office really speak English, they’ve been really nice and helpful.
