Work schedule

Today had a discussion about my work schedule once school starts, so if anyone’s interested (probably mostly any JETs/future JETs reading this) here’s what I understand it to be:

Monday
morning: go to the culture center at 8:30, teach an adult education class from 9:30-11:30
afternoon:teach at the elementary school in the afternoon until 16:00 (I think).

Tuesday
morning: be at the elementary school at 8:15
afternoon: continue teaching at the elementary school until 16:00
evening: two adult education classes, 19:00-20:20 & 20:30-21:50. I had been wondering how these would be handled in my hours since they’re outside my usual work times and some JETs have a hard time getting the comp-time they’re entitled to. Not to worry…

Wednesday
morning: go to the culture center at 8:30, then spend the rest of the morning (9:30-11:45) at the kindergarden.
afternoon I’m off as my comp time for the evening adult classes. Should be handy for running into the city with enough time to do something before the last train. On the other hand, after a morning of playing with kindergarden kids, I may be too dead to…

Thursday & Friday
morning & afternoon teaching at middle school, 8:10-15:55. Probably do some afterschool stuff too, like clubs or whatever, just have to see.

Looks like my first day of classes will be with the kindergardeners on Wednesday, September 1. I’ll start at the middle school the next day. The adult education classes start Monday, September 6th (as a few students I run into around town keep reminding me… 8-) ).

Hey Tad,
This is Laura here, I am a first year JET. We met in Saijo (dinner at Jolly Pasta)… I’m the fellow Arizonan. Well anyways, I love you journal! I have been looking to set up a journal myself, what site do you use? Please let me know!
How was Fuji???

Hi Laura. Thanks! The software I use is called Nucleus, there’s a link at the bottom of the left column. But there’s a fair amount of work getting it set up and running the way I wanted to (changing style sheets, modifying PHP code, other junk). I use a general web hosting service (http://www.inmotionhosting.com). If you want an simple way to getting into it might try either livejournal or xanga, more than a few JETs on both to hook into existing rings and such if ya want. I went the route I did because I had the webspace and like having a little more control — both of the software running things and the content in case whatever hosting service I’m on goes belly-up or such.

Ah, Fuji… I’ll get to the details in an entry once I get caught up on email and junk. Short of it was it was cold, dark & wet until I wimped out at 7th station & spent the night at the hut there. Bunch made it to 9th, a few to the top & a wiser bunch turned around at 6th and drank the night away back at the restaurant… 8-)
