A try at skiing…

Tad on the slopes

Saturday I went with some local JETs to a ski slope in the area to try some skiing. Can’t say I was all that successful at it — I wasn’t too bad at controlling myself on almost flat (crosscountryish) ground, but much of any real slope and I was quickly on the ground. Biggest problem is I’m kinda penguin toed ( \_/, the opposite of pigeon toed /_\ ) and you have to turn your toes inward to stop. That’s highly unnatural for me and slightly uncomfortable in ski boots. Just keeping the skis straight was a little tough. Maybe if I go again, I’ll try snowboarding since there are fewer issues with feet position when they’re both strapped to the board. On the whole I think everyone had some fun, even myself.

Afterwards we went to a nearby onsen for a soak. Very relaxing. Then we had dinner in the restaurant there. I chose one of their specialties, wild boar (which is common in this area). It was quite good, a bit of a porkish taste at first and a bit of beefish aftertaste.
