Its a great service that provides online dictionaries, phrase books and one of the best translators I’ve used (nice thing is it gives a reverse translation so if the meaning is unmangled after English->Japanese->English you know its OK and can try fixing it if it isn’t). Anyways, another of its services emails out messages to help you study vocabulary, kanji, phrases & slang. I was ROFLing at the slang-of-the-day for yesterday:

In fact there is an entire site devoted to what is lovingly known as “Engrish”. Figure I should start sharing some of my finds as well.

This one was on a water pot at the Mt. Fuji Yoshida-guchi 5th station restaurant. Really made me and everyone else think twice about using it… ^_^;;

Well, actually, it was something positive, a hilarious web comic that is so wrong and twisted in so many ways I have lost count. Good thing I’m not religious, just reading through the whole archives like I have the past few days would probably count as a few deadly sins. Highly recommended if you have a twisted and tolerant sense of humor.

Figure I might as well mention a few of my other daily reads along those lines. Of course there are probably no geeks that don’t hit Dilbert and MegaTokyo on a regular basis as well as User Friendly. A couple of my personal favorites though are Ozy & Millie for its wonderfully sardonic wit and Kevin & Kell for its well realized world of predator and prey with a twisted sociological and technological spin. And, alas less frequently, there’s Sabrina Online.

Small enough that you can hear someone talking on the other side and easily make out what they’re saying if they speak up a little. Today I was in-between two guys on opposite ends of the area, talking to each other on their speaker phones. The result was a strange, annoying stereo effect of hearing the speaker in one ear and the speaker phone in the other. Geez, guys, get off your lazy asses and walk 50 feet. But I guess this isn’t too surprising, considering everyone is constantly using the phone system’s “all page” function when they need to contact someone who’s not at their desk…
